Very knowledgeable about gluten free and able to advise on cross-contamination.

Slightly out of the city, but worth the trip, Happy Cookie is a 100% gluten free and vegan bakery selling a wide variety of cookies (obviously) as well as some other cake and bread products.

Although not a dedicated gluten free restaurant, A Despensa offers a lot of gluten free Italian options. They have gluten free pasta and bread so most dishes can be made gluten free and they even have gluten free beer. It’s definitely a good idea to book a reservation in advance to avoid being turned away at the door.

If you want to try the famous Porto sandwich, the Francesinha, then this is definitely the place to try it. The staff are very understanding of coeliac disease and cross-contamination risks and also had markings on their menu for GF items. Make sure you visit on an empty stomach because the Francesinha is huge!

There are a few McDonald’s in Porto, including one in a gorgeous building (making it slightly fancier) on Praça da Liberdade.
